Greek Islands in Chicago, Illinois (Greektown)

When I first suggested this restaurant for my friends and I to visit a few weeks ago, I kind of forgot that on the day we agreed it was Orthodox Easter. We were shocked to see the restaurant packed at 5:30 on a Sunday until things started clicking. Luckily we were able to grab a table, and we decided it it was a great day for us to be eating at Greek Islands and to learn more about this holiday and their traditions. Did you know that a common activity on Orthodox Easter is to be served a plate of colored hardboiled eggs that you smash together and whoever comes out with the least amount of cracks in their egg is considered the champion? Now you know!

I realized that I’ve had a lot of Greek food on it’s own but never together in a cohesive dish. I also had never eaten lamb before (of my knowledge) and was pleasantly surprised by it. There’s so much flavor in every bite unlike anything I’ve ever had. Another side note, people need to stop sleeping on Greek Wine and it needs to be more accessible at grocery stores, that’s all I’m saying. I will mention that the menu at Greek Islands is a bit daunting so it definitely helped that they offered their combo plate so you could try multiple things at once. For an appetizer though, their Homemade sausage was to die for. If you eat meat, you definitely need to place an order. Only wished we remembered to order the cheese flambae. My overall rating for atmosphere, drinks, and food is 9/10!
