Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner

Not every book I read becomes one of my must read or top books that I would recommend to others. I tend to have very high standards when it comes to the books so it’s hard for me to be wowed. Unfortunately, this book just didn’t cut it for me and was rather dull for the majority of it. It has great messages at certain parts of the book but I just kept waiting for something remotely interesting to happen and it was kind of a big let down when the book ended and that never occurred.

The book follows the life of two sisters, Jo and Bethie, growing up in a very predominant Jewish household in 1950s Detroit. At the beginning it looks like they are living the perfect Dick and Jane lifestyle but as the years pass they realize there are many road blocks in life that might change who they are. It spans from 1950s to 2016 and it’s a coming of age book for both sisters and how they adapt and grow from the different paths life brings them down. Neither of them end up living the life they originally saw for themselves nor has a life that brings them complete joy. They definitely aren’t feeling like a Mrs. Everything.

It’s always a little disappointing when you find a book and take the time to read it and it ends up being only so, so. But for me when I read a book like this I find myself reaching for a new book even faster to find a new story to enjoy.

  1. Fair and honest review!!! I also need a bit more drama and action in my books.
