You Stay Classy San Diego

This past weekend I had the opportunity to head down to sunny San Diego for a quick weekend getaway to visit my dear friends Malone and Rachel. Malone is stationed down there in the navy and Rachel works remote and decided to join Malone and live out there for a little while. I wanted to make the trip before Malone heads out on her first deployment at the end of the summer. I hadn’t been to San Diego since I was in 8th grade and I forgot how much I love this city.

There are many places in California that I want to visit but there are very few places where I could see myself living there. San Diego takes the lead of places in California I would move to. It never gets super hot (looking at you Seattle) and rarely gets below 50s. You are surrounded by the ocean and are not far from mountains filled with great hiking trails. They almost have a little Midwest nice to them and will offer you a smile and a hi while you pass. They have one of the coolest zoos I have ever been to. If you ever find yourself in San Diego you need to make sure to hold an entire day just for the zoo. There is literally a chair lift that takes you from one point in the park to the other because of how long it would take you to get over there by feet. There are so many beaches that there is something for every person and the vibe that they want. If you want a spring break kind of vibe then Pacific Coast Beach is probably going to be your destination but if you want more chill and less crowded, head north to La Jolla or Del Mar. And just like Seattle it’s incredibly dog friendly.

We spent the weekend hanging out at the beach, catching up, eating great food and watching lots of Bert Kreischer. He’s an incredibly funny comedian but fair warning he is very bold in what he says and has no filter at all. A little shocking at points. But highly recommend if you enjoy stand up. I also learned how strong the sun in San Diego is. I am not sure if it was due to not really seeing sun the last few months but I got very, very burnt. I had sunscreen on and everything! I was only told later on that you need to reapply sunscreen in San Diego every like 60 minutes. This is a warning to anyone before they go there. Do not make the same mistake I did. Still in some pain today and it’s been four days. To my dermatologist, who I have to see in a few days, I am so sorry.

But in the end it was a great weekend hanging with some great people that I miss dearly. Can’t wait to see you both again soon.

  1. Ive only spent one night in San Diego due to a plane layover. However I’ve come to realize in my research, it’s the place I’d be most happy with the weather year round as youve described. I think I should schedule a trip there before I pick up and move, lol. If I fall in love with San Diego then. I’ll have to figure out how to afford it next!
