Title: The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz
Author: Erik Larson
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Why I gave this rating: It was an interesting historical read. Not really wow but I enjoy Larson’s writing. Kind of wish there were pictures throughout so I could get visuals. Felt like you could almost jump from chapter to chapter and still know what was being talked about.
People who would like this book: WWII nerds aka my dad.
Favorite Quote: “Never was there such a contrast of natural splendor and human vileness”.

Title: The Tsar of Love and Techno
Author: Anthony Marra
My Rating: ⭐⭐
Why I gave this rating: The book was difficult to follow. It says short stories but the first chapter was 50+ pages and felt like it was all over the place. Didn’t last much after that.

Title: The Songbook of Benny Lament
Author: Amy Harmon
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Why I gave this rating: I loved this book. No easier way to say it. It’s a slow start but it dives into what made the 60s infamous. Both for good and for bad. So poetically written, that I know this book will stay in my thoughts for a long time. A book I will encourage many to read. Well done Amy Harmon. There are so many things I want to say about this book. It had me researching music legends as well as all the turmoil of the 60s. I just had to sit with my thoughts for a while after reading this and truly comprehend what I had just read.
People who would like this book: Music Lovers. People interested in the 60s era. Forbidden Love.
Favorite Quote: “Prejudice is human nature, and it isn’t always ugly or violent or even obvious. We all make judgments, some of them justified, some of them not. We’re taught a certain way of thinking and doing, we’re taught to blame or justify, and a lot of the time we don’t even know we’re doing it. And that’s true of everybody.”

Title: The Moor’s Account
Author: Laila Lalami
My Rating: ⭐⭐(.5)
Why I gave this rating: This book kind of confused me. I read the summary as that it would be 4 different points of view but pretty sure it was only one. I also was just annoyed with how long it felt like it took me to get through one chapter. Slow-paced for sure!
