Weekly Book Review 12/11 – 12/17

Title: Miss Memory Lane: A Memoir

Author: Colton Haynes

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Why I gave this rating: Need to give a warning in advance for this book. It is an incredibly tough to read book with some very heavy topics. Colton is very vulnerable in his writing and talks about things he went through as a kid and as a young child star and everything that early fame brought with it. You can’t help but almost cry in disbelief from all he endured chapter to chapter. Thank you to Colton for being open in writing his story and sharing it with the rest of the world.

People who would like this book: Celebrity Memoirs.

Favorite Quote: “Alcoholism is the only disease you get yelled at for having”.

Title: The Many Daughters of Afong Moy

Author: Jamie Ford

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Why I gave this rating: I read the first chapter of this book and was so in love with it that I was predicting a 5 star read. And then I jinxed myself. It had me for like the first quarter, then a weird sci-fi turn kind of happened and I was confused. Like what….But mainly why?? Instantly lost me. Kind of disappointing but I still think Jamie Ford is an incredibly talented writer and will continue to read his other books.

Title: Curse of the Wolf King

Author: Tessonja Odette

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Why I gave this rating: This book was so fun to read. Incredibly addictive. While the plot as a whole was very so-so, I couldn’t put those book down. I love a fairytale retelling and this retelling of Beauty and the Beast grabbed me from the start. I think describing this as a Mature YA is the best genre category. If it didn’t have one spicy scene, I would recommend it to any middle school or high schooler. I can’t always say this about series but I enjoyed it so much it had me considering reading the next book. Plus I love any book that has a character who loves to read.

People who would like this book: Mature YA. Anyone looking for a fun fantasy read.

Favorite Quote: “Books give me experiences I shouldn’t have, emotions that aren’t my own. They spell out words that manage to draw tears from my eyes, twist my heart, even though nothing is physically happening to me. It’s a human society I don’t care to mess with”.

Title: Two Nights in Lisbon

Author: Chris Pavone

My Rating: ⭐⭐

Why I gave this rating: This book was suppose to be a thriller and I read over 100 pages and still was not able to get into this book. I found the plot just not engaging and didn’t understand what was suppose to be happening. A thriller is suppose to grab your attention in the first 25 pages! You want to unravel the clues and build that suspense throughout. In the end this was a bust for me.
