Title: The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post
Author: Allison Pataki
My Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐(.5)
Why I gave this rating: Marjorie Post is a fascinating woman. She helped grow the company General Foods from the small cereal company out of Battle Creak, MI. But there was so much more to her than just the business side of things. She played a vital role in WWI and so many of our presidents lives. She’s a person from history that had such a huge impact on how we live now, but doesn’t often get the recognition she deserves. Check this one out!

Title: What the Wind Knows
Author: Amy Harmon
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐(.5)
Why I gave this rating: This book was like Irish folklore/history meets Time Travelers Wife. The history part was fascinating and even had me googling people like Michael Collins and everything he did for the revolution. A few parts of the book are in Gaelic so of course I fell down the rabbit hole of watching Youtube videos of people speaking Gaelic or doing the Riverdance. Irish ancestors would be so proud. However, my negative side of things is that the Time Travelers Wife part just made me annoyed. Like there were certain parts that felt so far fetched that I just had to role my eyes. Other than those few annoying moments, this book was engaging and told a story of fighting for what one believes in.

Favorite Quote: “But the wind and water know all the earth’s secrets. They’ve seen and heard all that has ever been said or done. And if you listen, they will tell you all the stories and sing every song. The stories of everyone who has ever lived. Millions and millions of lives. Millions and millions of stories”.

Title: Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea
Author: Barbara Demick
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Why I gave this rating: I think for a lot of the world, North Korea is seen almost as this unknown world. The idea of a country being so closed off from the rest of the world kind of intrigues us. We want to know what’s inside and how they live. There’s only so much we’re able to read. Nothing to Envy tells the stories of those who have lived in North Korea and some of the struggles they faced day to day. Opens your eyes to a lot of things.
People who would like this book: People wanting to learn more about the people from North Korea
Favorite Quote: “North Korean defectors often find it hard to settle down. It is not easy for somebody who’s escaped a totalitarian country to live in the free world. Defectors have to rediscover who they are in a world that offers endless possibilities. Choosing where to live, what to do, even which clothes to put on in the morning is tough enough for those of us accustomed to making choices; it can be utterly paralyzing for people who’ve had decisions made for them by the state their entire lives”.
