Title: Kaikeyi
Author: Vaishnavi Patel
My Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐
Why I gave this rating: I grew up reading about Greek and Irish folklore but never much about the folklore of Hindu Gods. Kaikeyi was a very beautifully written book that dived deep into the history that means so much to people. And to think that Patel wrote this book while working on her law degree. An amazing debut novel. Can tell there will be many great things to come from this talented author. (Also can we talk about how beautiful this cover is).
People who would like this book: Debut authors. Hindu Folklore.
Favorite Quote: “Because those who are good question themselves. Because those who are good always wonder if there was a better way, a way that could have helped more and hurt less. That feeling is why you are good”.

Title: The Island of Sea Women
Author: Lisa See
My Rating:⭐⭐⭐ (.5)
Why I gave this rating: I may have given this a different rating if I didn’t read a different Lisa See book a few weeks ago (Hummingbird Lane is absolutely fantastic). Like any See book, she does an amazing job of finding these true stories and bringing them to life. I don’t often read about books set in Asia, so reading her books always has me googling nonstop. A fascinating true story about the sea women and how much of a role they played on the island of Jeju.
People who would like this book: Historical Fiction set in Asia. Female power.
Favorite Quote: “Fall down eight times, stand up nine. For me, this saying is less about the dead paving the way for future generations than it is for the women of Jeju. We suffer and suffer and suffer, but we also keep getting up. We keep living. You would not be here if you weren’t brave. Now you need to be braver still”.

Title: The Diamond Eye
Author: Kate Quinn
My Rating:⭐⭐⭐
Why I gave this rating: While I normally really like Kate Quinn books, this wasn’t my favorite. The plot sounded incredibly interesting, it just didn’t grab me like her others. It was also the first book I’ve ever read in large print and I felt like I flew through it. However, while this wasn’t my favorite Kate Quinn book, I would recommend checking out some of her others. She does a great job of finding the untold stories and bringing them to the rest of the world.
People who would like this book: Historical Fiction set in Russia. Untold historical stories.
Favorite Quote: “I reminded myself that you must do the thing you think you cannot do,” she said simply. “Always. And generally you find out you can do it, after all”.
