Title: The Song of Achilles
Author: Madeline Miller
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Why I gave this rating: As we know from some of my previous posts, I really enjoy Greek Mythology inspired books. This was a story I had not really heard of before, but obviously knew who Achilles was and the role he played in Greek History. While I did enjoy this book, I would recommend her book Circe over this one. The plot didn’t grab me as much as Circe did. Always looking for other Greek Mythology inspired books though.
People who would like this book: Greek Mythology fans. Looking to read about an uncommon story.
Favorite Quote: “Chiron had said once that nations were the most foolish of mortal inventions. “No man is worth more than another, wherever he is from”.

Title: The Night Circus
Author: Erin Morgenstern
My Rating:⭐
Why I gave this rating: I tried to read this book. I really did. Clearly this week was the week of reading books that everyone has read and I am just late on the trend. Almost 1 million people have read this book on Goodreads! And many, many more who don’t have Goodreads. And yet, I couldn’t get into this book. It felt like it read fast but the dark magic and the weirdness was too much for me.

Title: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet
Author: Jamie Ford
My Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Why I gave this rating: This book was fantastic! I’m very late to the party in reading this book and if you have also not read it, I would highly recommend. It’s a beautifully written book that speaks about the many obstacles and tragedies Japanese Americans faced in the United States during WWII. I loved the back and fourth in the timelines. I don’t always like that in books, but I think it made this book extra wonderful. A great tale of forbidden love in a time of broken hearts. Very excited to check out other books by Jamie Ford.
People who would like this book: Historical fiction fans. Historical books set in Unites States.
Favorite Quote: “It reminded him that time was short, but that beautiful endings could still be found at the end of cold, dreary days”.

Title: The Lioness
Author: Chris Bohjalian
My Rating: ⭐
Why I gave this rating: I made it about 50 pages in before I had to put it away. It was so horrorly (not a word but I’m making it one for this content) graphic that it took away any interest in the book. I don’t even think it was marked as horror or had that in the book description. But within the first 20 pages I was so disturbed, that the plot could’ve been anything after that and it would have still not gotten me to read it. Would not recommend this one.
