Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney

If you were to ask any of my friends or family what the last genre they would ever see me reading, they probably would automatically say thriller/horror. I am like the ultimate Scaredy Pants when anything horror is involved. I literally walked out of Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter 4 (when I was like 10) because I couldn’t handle it. So I think when I started reading thrillers it really surprised people, myself included. If you’re looking for a book that will give you the heebie jeebies then check this book out. The first half had me wanting to lock all the doors and hide under the covers. This was definitely not like any other game of rock, paper, scissors that I have ever played.

Do you really know the person you married? Think again. Adam and Amelia Wright have been having some marriage conflicts for a long time. When they win a weekend trip to Scotland, they believe that is exactly what they need to help restore their marriage. Every year on their anniversary they exchange customary gifts, and every year Amelia writes a letter to her husband that she never lets him read. Until now. However, they did not win this trip. One is lying. One does not want Happily Ever After.

I think one of the reasons why I’ve started enjoying thrillers so much is how many unexpected twists the authors can fit into one book. Unlike other genres, thrillers feed off of those twists that leave the readers in upmost confusion. While I did enjoy this book, the peak was at about 3/4 of the way through and the ending fell a bit flat. I wish Feeney would’ve pushed the unexpected ending to the last chapter instead of having 40 or so pages still to read after it. Though in her credit, the twist that did occur was so out of left field and I was left utterly stunned. Alex Michaelides will always take the lead when I think of thriller writers I love, but I will still love to see what other things Alice Feeney comes up with
