Kathakali in Kirkland, Washington

I’m embarrassed to say that in my almost 24 years of life, I’ve never had Indian food. I grew up in a very Midwestern family where dinners usually revolved around meat and cheese and throwing it in a casserole dish. It wasn’t really until college that I started venturing out and trying new foods and even more so when I started having an interest in learning about how food impacts different cultures. But I made it one of my goals for 2022 to try new things outside of my norm which includes food.

Kathakali is located in North Kirkland, and you walk inside and are immediately hit with just amazing smells. You’re not really sure what it is but it will just have you salivating. My friend who I was dining with is a pescatarian so I decided to be as well to make it easier to split plates. We split their white truffle masala dosa (rice crepe stuffed with spiced potatoes, drizzled with truffle oil and served with three different chutneys), garlic naan (will be dreaming about this naan), and their Paneer Butter Masala (paneer cheese in an incredibly flavorful gravy and spices). When I say this was some of the best food I’ve had in a long time, it was not an exaggeration. The amount of flavor you got in every bite, absolutely unbelievable. I will for sure be adding Indian cuisine into my pallet more often. Please comment any dishes one should try.

I think one of the things that often intimates people when trying new foods is that they don’t know where to start. You can only Google so much, but luckily Google helped me out in this case. I Googled restaurants in Seattle/Bellevue that locals eat at and this kept coming up so figured why not try it. Check this place out! My rating 10/10.
