While Justice Sleeps by Stacey Abrams

You’re probably thinking what I was thinking when I first picked up this book which was Stacey Abrams wrote a book? A political thriller style book. Definitely a head scratcher at first glance. I’ve recently started getting more into thrillers this last year but this was my first political thriller and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. But I realized having an author like Abrams write a political thriller offered a different point of view that a normal thriller writer might not have been able to necessarily hit on. I will say that there were parts of the different law/government talk that just went over my head but that’s also probably cause my knowledge on that topic is very limited. Despite that, this book had me researching other political thrillers I could add to my to read list and explore more in this genre.

Avery Keene is an incredibly intelligent law clerk working for Supreme Court Justice Howard Wynn. During the days she puts up with his demanding need for perfection from his staff and at nights she is assisting her drug addict mother in getting out of the binds she often finds herself in. When Justice Wynn falls into an unexpected coma, Avery is shocked that she is named his power of attorney and legal guardian. Having no idea how much her life is about to change, Avery finds out that the Justice had been secretly working on a controversial case between the United States Government and a genetics company in India which may prove crucial for the future of medicine. She quickly realizes that there are many high up government officials who would be willing to kill instead of have this case approved. Including a few in the White House. Will Avery be able to solve the series of puzzles Wynn has set up before anymore people die?

While it did take a little to pick up and I often found myself a little confused on the government talk, this book was so good. Great pick for anyone interested in government with a twist. A book that shines on some things that may be hidden and things we don’t even know about it. I hope there’s either a second one connected to this series or Abrams writes more. It is clear she is a very talented author. Check this one out!
