This was totally something I meant to type up this past week but between the craziness of Thanksgiving and me just spacing here we are a week later. But yes you read that title right folks, I am officially all moved back in the Windy City. November was a whirlwind of selling, packing, donating, etc. Ah the joys of uplifting your life from one place to another. I don’t even know how I was able to accumulate that much stuff in a little over a year. Someone please take away my Amazon account.

The road trip from Seattle to Chicago is 28 hours without stopping, so stops were definitely going to be happening. My lovely mother flew out to Seattle to make the drive with me as we made our way through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and finally Illinois. It was a lot of rural America. Miles and miles of nothing but cattle. Sometimes not even seeing another car for 40+ minutes. Lets just say when we did run into some of these small rural towns, they were always very interesting experiences. Not a mask in site from the time we left Seattle till the time we entered back into Illinois.

We got to check out some great sites along the way such as Bozeman, Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, and Devils Tower. Bozeman is a very cute town with lots of restaurants and shops all up and down main street. It’s no wonder so many flock to this town in the winter to ski. I say town even though it’s probably one of the largest cities in Montana. That’s kind of how it felt in all of these states. Town size cities. Devils Tower had to be one of the weirdest experiences. We got there after sleeping in this small western town and it was completely empty. We were the only car in site. People will wait up to 3+ hours in the summer just for parking at this national monument and we were the only people there. Mt Rushmore had more people but we were still probably in and out within 30 minutes. I wouldn’t go and visit just Rushmore if you were to ever do this trip. Would recommend seeing a bunch of the different national and state parks all around that area.

The trip was very fun but when we finally pulled up to my house last Monday, I decided I didn’t even want to look at my car for over 24 hours. I loved my Seattle time but excited to figure out life back in Chicago. Though I have to say I have been in a state of permanent coldness since getting back which is not a good sign saying winter is coming. Despite that it’s good to be home.

I lived in Rapid City SD for 10 years! So I love the Mt. Rushmore and Devils Towers photos. And you’re right, there is so much to see in the Black Hills, so much more than just Mt. Rushmore.
