I have so many books on my want to read list that I often forget about them once they get added until the time comes for me to read that book. Obviously they must interest me somewhat to grab my attention the first time, but it’s hard to keep track of all the different titles and plots and book covers. This book however, has been a book I have been wanting to read for so long that I am so glad that I finally got the chance. From the first time reading the description, it has been stuck with me since and kind of always been in the back of my mind to read. I am not sure if it was due to being a totally different take on the very popular what if style of writing therefore something I had not seen before, but from the description to the end I was hooked.
Hillary Rodham is a second year law student at Yale University when one night she meets this southern, charming man named Bill Clinton. Hillary and Bill start a relationship soon after and start considering a future together. But on the evening when Bill Clinton asks Hillary Rodham to marry him, she says no. Changing the storyline for not just these two individuals but for the entire history of the United States from that day moving forward. This fictional story is the possible outline of what both of their lives would’ve been like if she never became Hillary Clinton.
I know it’s cheesy to say but this book was so fun to read. No matter what your political preferences may be, I feel like it is such a different look to life that either party may enjoy this. If you love Hillary or hate her, I still believe this would be an interesting read to better understand this woman. I will say that it did lose me a little in the beginning when it started talking about campaign talk and some of the nitty gritty details about that but that is my only con for this book. An incredibly clever what if novel that is unlike anything I have ever read before.
