One of the many reasons why I love to read books, and read as much as I do, is that I love reading about a life or story that is completely different than my own. To be transported into this person’s shoes and see a whole different world that I could never imagine living. Whether good or bad, I enjoy seeing life from a different set of eyes.
A Long Way Home is a true story/autobiography of Saroo Brierly and his journey through life after being separated from his family in India at a very young age and growing up in a suburb of Brisbane, Australia. His story follows his recollection of those early years on how he even ended in Australia and his dedication on finding out where he was from in hopes of being reunited with his family once again. How he ended up on a train all alone and ended up journeying to the other side of his home country and living on the streets till he was brought into an orphanage and later adopted by an Australian couple. All at the age of five.
This was definitely a life I couldn’t even imagine living. How this young boy was able to survive all on his own and the determination he possessed in his research on trying to find his birth family once again is amazing. Saroo Brierly is an incredible human who has lived a life so many of us are probably very grateful that we have not. It’s a power story that shows the faith, willpower, and drive of this man.
