One of my favorite things in life is taking trips or just spending time with my family in general. Because I can guarantee that something interesting is going to happen, someone is probably going to cry, and there will also be inside jokes that we get to share with each other. So, it’s always nice to be able to read about another chaotic family vacation that isn’t my own. And that is exactly what The Jetsetters is all about.
The Jetsetters follows the life of the Perkin’s family. Each of them are going through their own life struggles and all of it slowly unfolds throughout the story. Mom Charlotte, has just won an all expenses paid trip on a cruise around the Mediterranean. All she wants is to bring her kids back together and have them still rely on her every once in awhile. Lee, the oldest daughter, is a struggling actress who has yet to hit it big time. She is holding a secret from her childhood that has been weighing her down for 15+ years and is causing her lots of problems in her private life. Cord, the middle son, can’t figure out how to tell his mother that he is gay and that his boyfriend and him are wanting to get married. Regan, the youngest kid, has a marriage that is falling apart and has put her life on pause the last few years to be the perfect wife and the perfect mom. With each member battling their own issues, they go on this trip in hopes of clearing the air and confronting their choices they’ve made in life.
In the end though this book was just ok. Made me appreciate my family even more that we are not going through some of the drama the Perkin’s family faced. While there were some great lessons learned from this book, I felt like I was wishing for a happier ending for most of the characters. Kind of just left me feeling a little sad for them. Though it is a good quick read if you don’t want to invest too much time in a book.
