The Removed by Brandon Hobson

This book was so confusing. No other way to start this post then by saying that right from the beginning. I had no idea what was happening or being said for a majority of this book. The one good thing is that is is a very fast read. Like easily could be read in probably a day or two for any reader. So you won’t find yourself scratching your head in puzzlement for a long time which is nice. But even after finishing the book I am still not entirely sure what I read or what just happened.

The Removed follows the life of the Echota family and everything each one of them is facing as the 15 year anniversary of their middle son’s death from a police shooting is approaching. In between the different family members stories are myths, folk tales and the history of the Cherokee tribe that are entwined with what is happening to the family at this point in their life. Each family member is facing their own demons and are starting to question what is true life and what is the spirit world.

I know this was a horrible description but I truly have no idea how to describe this book. You can read the book description and think maybe you get it but I am going to tell you that the book description the author gives is nothing at all to what the book actually is. I felt like there was no true tie that brought everything together in the end. The ending just kind of happens and leaves so many questions and unfinished stories. Not a book I would recommend to others unfortunately.
