Killing Floor by Lee Child

Before I start writing about the book let me start by saying the Milwaukee Bucks have just won the NBA championship for the first time in 50 years! I had the honor of working as an intern for them for the last two years and it was one of the greatest experiences of my entire life. Couldn’t help but get a little choked up just now watching the game. There is something to be said about the little midwest city of Milwaukee and the fans that the Bucks have brought together. Congrats to Milwaukee and the Bucks! Wish I was there celebrating with everyone. Bucks in Six!

Back to the book. Once again Meghan has tried her hand in the action pack thriller novels. This time it was the first book in the Jack Reacher series. And while I did enjoy it more than American Assassin, I just don’t think this genre style is for me. I’ll still be open to read it but probably won’t be itching to go read them anytime soon. Though if you do enjoy action packed books I would say this is a pretty good attention grabber.

This was Lee Child’s debut novel and it has obviously done tremendously well. What I like about this one over others that I have read is that the main character, Jack Reacher, is just kind of like an average guy. Ok as average as a lead in action books can be. He isn’t a spy, top agent for the CIA or FBI, or some child prodigy that they have been training since he was born. Yeah he served in the army for 20+ years but that is pretty much all his background that we get.

Jack Reacher is just passing through the town of Margrave, Georgia where he is arrested for murder after only being in the town for one hour. What follows his arrest is a series of events connected to something bigger than anyone could’ve imagined. Jack somehow has found himself in the middle of one of the largest money counterfeit schemes the nation has ever seen. While Margrave started as a place to just stop and grab some breakfast, it has became something much, much larger.

The issue I had with this book is how gory in description this book got. It wasn’t scary but definitely didn’t want to read it at night for the horrible images it created. Detail is great but I don’t need to read the detail about different gruesome killings multiple times. So if you do read this book just a heads up. While I won’t be going to read the next one of this series, it was a good action book that kept me intrigued for the majority of the story. Pros and cons of everything.
